Immer am Wochenende (Bleiben wir realistisch: Klappt ja eh nicht. Diesmal bin ich ja schon froh, dass ich es soeben noch am Montag geschafft hab…) gibt es hier einen Sammelpost mit allem, was es nicht zu einem eigenen Artikel gebracht hat. Das ist mal mehr, mal weniger. Mal gucken, wie’s klappt.

Wie erstellt man ein Kurzgesagt-Video in 1200 Stunden

Seit Jahren fragst du uns, wie wir unsere Videos machen. Reden wir also endlich darüber! Von der Recherche über das Schreiben des Drehbuchs, das Illustrieren bis hin zum Animieren, Erzählen und Komponieren von Musik dauert die Produktion eines Kurzgesagt-Videos ungefähr 1.200 Stunden!

Dispatches from the Vietnam War: Beer, Bunkers and Typewriters

‚Dispatches from the Vietnam War: Beer, Bunkers and Typewriters‘ follows the surreal and existential journey of a young soldier entering war for the first time. Not long after I first met Lloyd I started hearing stories about his time in Vietnam during the war. Each one cut through the archetypes I had often heard about the war and wars in general. Each one insightful and nuanced. Each one led to a desire to hear more. Details behind why he volunteered to join the Army; what it was like for him to fly on an airplane for the first time, let alone one heading to war; and his transition from Vietnam home were left out due to time constraints. So too were a few other stories. Perhaps those will be shared at a later date. What remains are three stories that pull you into a world of a young man navigating the paradoxes of conflict at a pivotal time in his life.

FOCUS VOL.2 HDR // 8K MACRO

FOCUS VOL.2 is a collection of honorable mentions from R&D and production (dynamic wallpapers). The project was all about pure colors, clean shapes and marbling. I tried to reduce the amount of flow additives to a minimum in order do get sharp edges and avoid shapes being washed out on canvas. Everything is a bit more natural and organic, visible imperfections, dust and splotches, no heavy grading or retouching. The look has something flat and graphic to me. I think the method isn’t complete yet, but overall some good moments in there. I don’t know if I have resources to go on with research anytime soon, that’s why I wanted to share the work in progress with you, on hold for now. This collection is a bit of everything with a moody soundscape to chill and enjoy.

Apollo 13 Views of the Moon in 4K

This video uses data gathered from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft to recreate some of the stunning views of the Moon that the Apollo 13 astronauts saw on their perilous journey around the farside in 1970. These visualizations, in 4K resolution, depict many different views of the lunar surface, starting with earthset and sunrise and concluding with the time Apollo 13 reestablished radio contact with Mission Control. Also depicted is the path of the free return trajectory around the Moon, and a continuous view of the Moon throughout that path. All views have been sped up for timing purposes — they are not shown in „real-time.“

New Jersey State Troopers Pull Man From Burning Truck Seconds Before it Explodes

Bridgewater Township, New Jersey – Two New Jersey State Troopers pulled a man out of a burning tractor-trailer on Interstate 287 in Bridgewater Township, Somerset County just seconds before it exploded. On Monday, March 2, at approximately 3:35 p.m., Trooper Robert Tarleton was speaking with a driver on a motor vehicle stop northbound on I-287 at milepost 20 when a nearby tractor trailer ran off the right side of the road in the express lanes, striking the guardrail and bridge abutment before becoming engulfed in flames. When Trooper Tarleton heard the impact and observed the crash, he immediately returned the driver’s credentials and ran back to his troop car to request for fire and emergency medical services personnel to respond to the crash. As he drove to the scene, Trooper Tarleton calmly provided an update to dispatch before exiting his vehicle and sprinting to the burning tractor-trailer. As he approached the truck, State Police Lieutenant Edward Ryer, who was on his way home from work when he witnessed the crash, was out of his vehicle attempting to rescue the driver from the cab. Trooper Tarleton and Lieutenant Ryer then worked together to pull the driver from the burning cab, dragging him to safety, seconds before it exploded. The driver sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to Morristown Medical Center for evaluation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

I’ve been listening to Tycho’s music since I was 15. So when he asked me to create a video for his title track ‚Weather‘, I jumped at the opportunity! For many years I put on Tycho’s tracks at every take off. Flying can feel like a time capsule, a space between what’s left behind and what’s to come. Time seems to be standing still. The outside world distant and abstract. This video illustrates that surreal feeling I get.
